Why won't my eSIM QR code scan? ›

The QR code won't scan appropriately if it is torn or smudged. Your phone's software might have bugs. Restarting your phone can help. Make sure your eSIM app is up to date.

Some carriers may send you a link instead of a QR code to download your eSIM. On your iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later, tap the link to set up your eSIM. When the Activate New eSIM notification appears, tap Allow. Tap Continue at the bottom of the screen.

The activation QR code cannot be re-used by the same user or any other user again on the same device or on any other device unless you de-activate the eSIM profile from the current device.

If your camera not scanning QR code, chances are, you're either trying to scan it in poor lighting or are either too close to the code or not close enough. You need to ensure you're at an appropriate distance from the QR code and have sufficient light. You can even ask someone to hold up a flashlight while you scan.

One of the primary reasons for QR Code not working is if it's blurred. This happens when you download QR Codes in an incorrect format and resize them- which can lead to a blurred QR Code. A blurry QR Code image might not be correctly interpreted by a scanner.

If your eSIM card has been deleted, you must contact your carrier and have them send you a new QR code that you can scan in order to activate your eSIM again. Some Carriers offer to see the QR code on your personal page, on their Carrier website.

Here Are Multiple Ways to Get an eSIM

Navigate to Settings and tap on the "Request eSIM" option. Proceed with the verification process and complete the eSIM activation payment. Once the payment is confirmed, you will receive an eSIM profile installation QR code via the app or email.

Your QR code is valid for one phone only and cannot be reused on additional phones. The same QR code can be reused only on the same device if the eSIM profile for this code is deleted from the phone.

Does eSIM QR code expire? ›

The QR code sent will not expire until it has been scanned/loaded.

Your email address is where the Smart eSIM QR will be sent. The store frontliner will guide you through the process. Once your upgrade is approved, settle the payment at the store. Receive the QR code of your new eSIM via email.

You will have to scan the QR code immediately. Post that, it will take around 2 hours for eSim to get activated.

Your eSIM can only be activated on one device. If you delete the eSIM from your phone, you will not be able to reuse it. You cannot scan the QR code on two devices, but on certain plans you can share data between devices by adjusting the settings on your phone.

If nothing happens, you may have to go to your Settings app and enable QR Code scanning. Open your Camera app and point it steadily for 2-3 seconds towards the QR Code you want to scan. If QR Code isn't an option in your settings, your device, unfortunately, can't scan QR Codes natively.

Because the "Unable to Activate eSIM" is appearing during the combined installation/activation flow, it usually means your device is unable to INSTALL your eSIM. This is often because you don't have a stable internet connection to download and install your eSIM (digital SIM card).
