Hate and Bias Protocol
A few weeks ago we introduced a districtwide hate and bias protocol and asked families for feedback and questions.
We implemented the protocol in an effort to improve each student’s sense of belonging and safety in our schools by reducing incidents of hate and bias.
Some of the questions families expressed were related to curriculum and definitions surrounding the protocol. We have now built
a website page sharing more information and the protocolfor easy reference going forward.
Our Emergency Response Terms
We use Standard Response Protocol terms and instructions when responding to situations that may arise in our schools, including emergencies. This helps to ensure everyone has a shared understanding of the steps we are taking to respond. This helps students, staff and first responders immediately know what is happening and what to do.
It’s important that we are all familiar with these terms so we know what they mean when we use them at our schools and buildings. Please review the terms and their meanings on this page.
| Holdis followed by the Directive: “In Your Room or Area” and is the protocol used when hallways need to be kept clear. We may sometimes also call this a “Hold and Teach” because classes and activities inside the classroom continue as normal. Examples:

Food assistance

Food assistance
Vancouver Public Schools is partnering with Share of Vancouver and Clark County Food Bank to host free food pantries each month from October through May at schools and community centers. The pantries are open to all VPS families. Please watch for more details about days, times and locations.
